Shoppers.Love.You Baby Blues and Better days is a free 4-week program offered to new or expectant mothers and fathers. The course provides information and addresses issues as well as common concerns associated with the arrival of a newborn child. This program is being offered on Saturday afternoons starting April 8th at Fort Garry Library and starting June 10th at Sir William Stephenson Library. The Mental Health First Aid course provides explanations of mental health, mental illness and mental health problems. The course discusses signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis situations and provides information about effective interventions and treatments. The Cognitive Behavior course is designed to equip individuals with a necessary skill set, which may be used to identify, assist as well as resolve issues related to mental health. This course is free of charge and for ages 16 and up. MDAM is also offering a 6 week cognitive course presented by Tina Holland on April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8 , 15 (6:00-8:00pm) at the St.Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Ave. The cost of this 6 week course is $40. The Shoppers Drug Mart’s Run for Women is an annual event held in support of women’s mental health. This year the event will be held on May 14 2017 at Leo Remillard in Winnipeg. The Run for Women will hold a 5K run/walk, 10K run/walk and little steps 1K run/walk. Little Steps will begin at 8:30am, followed by a warm up at 8:55pm with a 10K start at 9:15 am and a 5K start at 9:30 am. Money raised in this event will directly support women’s mental health programs offered at MDAM. Get your art on is a 90-120 minute art program composed of 10 sessions, which run every Thursday beginning November 3rd 2016 from 6-8 pm at the MDAM office, 4 Fort St. This program is intended for youth grades 9-12 and no experience is necessary. There are many who live with a variety of health conditions that can lead to a variety of mental health conditions such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, eating disorders and others. Stress, certain medications and a variety of ‘triggers’ or sensitivities to ingredients in some of our foods can also create problems with an individual’s appetite, weight loss or gain and other issues that can worsen their nutritional status and impact the overall mental health of that individual in the long run. This is a one-day session that provides insight into the importance of healthy eating habits and behaviours as part of the overall treatment plan for everyone- especially those who are living with a mental health condition. It is offered on January 14 2016, 9am-4pm at a cost of $25.

Rock It Out! is a two week summer rock camp for kids living in Manitoba aged 12-17. The rock camp is designed to encourage an environment where kids, particularly those at risk or affected by mood disorders can experience a sense of community as well as develop peer relationships.

MDAM is running a new youth program over spring break called the Work It Out! program. This program is designed to give kids a safe space to work on specific skills, which will help increase their physical and mental performance in sports and everyday life. The program will also educate kids on mental health issues through presentations and group discussions. The program is for kids aged 10-14 and the cost is $50 for four days (March 29th-April 1st).
