Workshop: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Length: 4 Weeks
Description: MBSR is an approach to self-care that can assist in managing stress, pain and illness. It was first introduced to the medical community by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, who ran a pain clinic at the University of Boston Hospital. The practice of mindfulness is used to help people learn to focus awareness on body sensations, thoughts and emotions in a non-judgemental way. In this workshop, participants will gain and practice skills to improve their ability to let go of the past, worry less about the future and live more fully in the present.
Facilitator: Ashley Kircher is a former nurse and mental health worker. She worked at St. Boniface Hospital Anxiety clinic with Dr. John Walker studying children with anxiety. She also has facilitated groups with anxiety and panic disorder, and has taught mindfulness stress reduction in various school divisions and Seven Oaks Wellness Centre. She has maintained a personal mindfulness meditation practise for the last 15 years.
