Asian Recipients of Manitoba 150 Awards Celebrated at Gala Dinner 2021
The Manitoba 150 recipients were announced earlier this year. Among those recognized as Manitoba 150 Women Trailblazers were Rita Chahal, Executive Director at Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba.
Manitoba 150 award recipients and nominees of Asian origin were celebrated on Sept. 11 at “A Salute to Manitoba,” a gala dinner at RBC Convention Centre. Local leaders and community members recognized the contributions of Manitoba 150 Women Trailblazers and Honour 150 recipients and nominees. Among the distinguished guests were Lt.-Gov. Janice Filmon and former Manitoba premier Gary Filmon, who received a painting by Manitoba artist Leona Carnegie. Many Asian organizations, as well as leaders from the Black community, joined in the celebration to express their solidarity and recognize the contributions of Manitoba 150 Women Trailblazers and Honour 150 recipients and nominees.
The event was made possible by Manitoba Arts Council and the Winnipeg Foundation, with the City of Winnipeg and RBC as co-sponsors. India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc. took the lead role in organizing the event, with assistance from the Asian Heritage Society and the Asian Women of Winnipeg.
